Rage
of Mages 2: Necromancer is a new game to be published by Nival
and Monolith Productions
in 2Q99. This game was published in Russia by Nival
and 1C under the name
of Allods 2: Necromancer on April 15, 1999.
The
action takes place in the world, which is already familiar to the
player owing to RoM, the game that has been published by Monolith,
Microids, CDV, Topware and SKC all over the world. The
russian version of RoM, Allods: Sealed Mystry, is a highly
internationally appraised title earlier released by Nival, Buka
and 1C.
The concept of Necromancer
is similar to the one of RoM. This game brings together all the
best of the two different genres – the role-playing game (RPG) and
the real time strategy (RTS). Such daring move of the RoM developers
proved to be more than simply justified – this combination ensured
the heightened interest of gamers.
RoM owes a great deal
of its success to the concept of the world divided into a great
number of islands – allods, separated from each other by a mysterious
substance called ‘astral’. Each allod only exists as long as a Great
Mage stays on it, so that the Mage is at the same time a keeper
and a prisoner of his allod. The very existence of such world is
bound to intrigue and excite your curiosity.
It should be emphasized
however that Necromancer is a totally independent game with the
original plot, graphics and design. Its action takes place on a
different allod, where players are welcome to meet face to face
with new heroes, new adventures, new friends and foes. For example,
you will find Shamans among the orc tribes, who are quite experienced
in combat magic. There are also two separate groups of human mages
– Druids and Necromancers.
The
explorer of Necromancer will have a rare opportunity to visit a
settlement of druids in a fantasy forest, and a city of knights,
which has a marvelous oriental outlook. Now it’s not only people
that you can expect being cooperative, but monsters too.
The developers tried
to take into account as many users’ suggestions as possible. The
order of missions in the course of the game no longer has to be
strictly sequential. Instead, the story line one is to follow now
interestingly depends on player’s choice. Besides, there are quests
that can only be accomplished by a mage, while there are others
specially made for warriors.
The characters in the
game have become much more individual: each now has his or her own
personality, and their relationships are not always neutral.
Necromancer is primarily
based on the technology first tested while developing RoM. All the
good staff is still there: stunning graphics with 3D terrain, 3D
rendered characters, swarms of highly detailed monsters, original
music, advanced AI, dazzling animation, and much more.
A lot of new graphics
has been added. Various buildings, monsters, and novel landscapes
of all kinds make the atmosphere of the game truly unique.
There aren’t any essential
alterations in Necromancer’s magic system. It is still based on
the 5 elements interacting: Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Astral.
But Mages can now be
equipped with some new spells; the possibilities and effects of
some familiar spells have also been modified. The graphical aspect
of the spells has become still more beautiful and realistic.
The intuitive interface
still allows easy performing of such complex functions as changing
a character’s armor and equipment during missions and formation
control. You will also have a possibility to make the AI care about
the routine.
The multiplayer model
has undergone some serious surgery. It now allows the player to
create rival clans and receive various quests, turning the network
game into the real interactive adventure.
